Round seven of the Superbike world championship has concluded today at the Misano World Circuit with the Tissot Superpole race and the second Superbike race. For the Althea MIE Racing Team and rider Alessandro Delbianco it proved to be a disappointing day, the rider crashing in the Superpole race and suffering a technical problem in Superbike race 2.
After yesterday’s very wet conditions, today’s races both took place in hot and sunny conditions. At 11am local time, the riders were out on track for the Superpole race. From seventeenth on the grid, Delbianco did his best to get into a good rhythm. Holding his position through the opening laps, a crash on lap five, at turn 4, prevented the young Italian from concluding his race.
The second Superbike race got underway in the early afternoon, Delbianco positioning fifteenth at the end of lap one. The Italian then oscillated between fourteenth and fifteenth during the first half of the race, after which a technical problem, on lap eleven, forced him to return to the garage. An unlucky ending to the Italian rider’s home round.
Alessandro Delbianco: “This morning, in the sprint race, I came into contact with another rider at turn one, but from last place I was then making up the lost ground to the guys immediately ahead of me. Unfortunately a crash prevented me from continuing but I was nevertheless pleased with my pace up until that point. In race 2 I was inside the points zone but then my bike switched off mid-race, we don’t yet know why, and my race ended there. Now we look ahead to Donington, a track I really like and where I hope to be able to do well.”
