The Althea MIE Racing team is competing on home turf this weekend, round five of the 2019 Superbike World Championship taking place on the stage that is the Imola circuit in Italy.
Local rider Alessandro Delbianco was out for first free practice at 10.30 this morning, in warm and sunny conditions. Starting the set-up work on his CBR1000RR SP2 along with his technicians, the Italian worked hard, making the most of the clement weather conditions. By the session’s end, Alessandro had set a fastest lap of 1’50.750, thus closing in eighteenth position.
In the subsequent afternoon session, the young rider strived to improve both his sensations with the bike and his lap times. He was able to lower his earlier time, by more than seven tenths, and with a best of 1’50.063, he rounded out day one in eighteenth place.
Alessandro Delbianco: “I’m not overly happy with how today’s gone because I’d have liked to be further forward at a track I like so much. Unfortunately, the problems we’re having here are similar to those that emerged in Thailand, with all the tight turns. I feel good though, despite the fact that I broke a finger two days ago; that’s a little painful but doesn’t condition my riding. I’ll be aiming to work well tomorrow because we have good potential here at Imola.”
