Mossey To Remain With OMG In 2020

OMG Racing are delighted to announce that Luke Mossey will continue to ride for the team in the 2020 Bennetts British Superbike Championship. Mossey has been a regular point-scorer throughout the 2019 season, making it through to the final round of qualifying on multiple occasions and currently sitting in 11th place in the Championship despite breaking his leg during an official test at Cadwell Park in August.

The 26-year-old moved into the British Superbike paddock back in 2009 when he took second place in the National Superstock 600 class. Moving up to British Supersport in the Privateer’s Cup in 2010, Mossey took four Privateer’s Cup wins; confirming his undoubted talent and class. His first British Supersport win came in 2014 at Knockhill and was later backed up with one more win and six other podium finishes.

Luke joined the premier class of British Superbikes in 2015 and made it into the Showdown in 2016, earning a reputation for consistency and racecraft. In 2017, his hard work paid off and he took his first British Superbike wins at Brands Hatch Indy, before injury ruled him out of championship contention.

In his first season with OMG Luke has delivered regular top-ten finishes, including a fourth-place at the opening round of the season. He endeared himself to the ‘OMG Family’ further with an outstanding ride at Thruxton where he battled back from the back of the grid to record an impressive ninth place. After a year with the team, he’s feeling settled and ready to mount a Showdown challenge in 2020.

“I’m really happy to announce that I will be staying with OMG Racing for the 2020 season. I believe we’ve had a good year on the Suzuki GSX-R1000R, which has been a difficult bike this year at times. I’ve got fantastic people around me in the team and I’ve built a great relationship up this year with the guys so I’m really looking forward to seeing what next season brings.

Obviously, we started the season out so well at Silverstone and showed that we have the ability to push on for bigger and better things. Next season we can hopefully have results like those more often and really repay the team for all the hard work they put in. OMG have such a unique team atmosphere and the close link with the fans is something I’ve really enjoyed.

Thanks to the team and to all my sponsors for the support this year, now the aim is to push for a couple more good results and to start 2020 in the right way!”

Team Principal Paul Curran was pleased with Luke’s contribution in 2019 and is confident his consistency and comfort on the bike will lead to an even bigger points haul in 2020.

“Happy to have Luke on board for another season, I’m looking forward to building on what we have developed as a team this year. Coming into 2019 Luke was always a rider we wanted to bring to the team due to his experience and racecraft, plus his previous race victories gave real backing to the goals we set out for ourselves when we first kicked off as a team for the 2018 season.

It’s been a tough season for Luke so far as the pace has been there to run in the top 6 but there has been a few component failures that cost the team some points and a couple of on-track incidents that we could have done without, but as they say, that’s racing. 2020 is a new year and we’ve made good progress as a team, so I have no doubt that we can continue that into next season.

We have a bike development plan in place for over the off-season and will look to start the championship as strong showdown contenders in 2020.”

OMG Founder Alan Gardner explained why it was a ‘no-brainer’ in his eyes about extending Luke’s contract for the 2020 season;

Alan Gardner, OMG Racing Founder

“Luke’s been a consummate professional (as much as we need him to be in this team!) since joining OMG, I think we’ve really helped him get back to the positive and happy rider which he was when he made it into the Showdown in 2016, it’s just a matter of time before he’s on the front row week-in, week-out.

He’s been consistent all year and with a bit of better luck, we could have been looking at the showdown ourselves with him this season. It’s great to see the smile back on his face though, not just for the team and himself, but for all the whole OMG Family.

We’re confident that Luke can be back on the podium in 2020!”

This news is just the start for OMG Racing in 2020, with plenty of exciting announcements to come between now and the start of next season. Make sure to follow the team on social media for all the latest updates, and to join the OMG Family yourself!
