After a much-needed mid-season break, Takaaki Nakagami is looking forward to getting back into racing action at the Czech Republic Grand Prix. The LCR Honda IDEMITSU rider signed off at the German GP last month with a battling points finish, made all the more impressive by the fact he was unable to walk due to an ankle ligament injury sustained during a crash at Assen.
The Japanese star returned home to recuperate from his injury and believes he is now back to something approaching full fitness following his time off. He did some track work in Spain last week to prepare for this weekend’s event Brno and is confident he will experience no issues with his left ankle.
Takaaki Nakagami: “I was back home in Japan for about 10 days after the Sachsenring. Unfortunately, it was not really like a holiday, I didn’t have the chance to go to the beach because almost every day I had to have my ankle checked, so I went to physio and I went to hospital many times. But it was nice to be back home after four months without seeing family. My injury is getting better so there should be no problems when we race again. I can walk with no problems now, although I can’t run yet, but I can ride a bike, so normal life is no problem. I went back to Spain last week and I did some riding on a flat track just to see how it was and there were no problems, so we should be ok. It’s flexible and there is no pain now.”
