After two tests in Spain and Portugal, you’d forgive OMG for thinking we might bring back some of the nice weather to the final Bennetts British Superbike Test at Silverstone – That wasn’t the case! But as the track dried and the lap times tumbled OMG collected two top ten finishes in the Superbike class, whilst on the Superstock bike Billy continued to show why the team expects great things this season.
In short; Luke in P4, Josh in P7, Billy in P3 – Not bad for the team’s second season.
Luke in P4 and Josh in P7 only tells part of the story. A difficult morning weather-wise saw both riders (and most across the paddock) consigned to the garage, we’re less two weeks from the start of the season and the last thing any team needs is a rebuild of the bikes. But the intervention from the heavens meant the team were able to work hard on last minute adjustments whilst the riders paid a trip to the glittering lights of race control for their official photo’s. Give them credit – they scrub up well when needed.
Once Josh had re-done his hair and the track had dried, the bikes were pushed out into the glorious Silverstone grey clouds and the new fluro liveries ran their first laps on a UK track. And didn’t they look stunning? Looks don’t win races, but thankfully for the OMG media team both Josh and Luke continued to showcase their pace and at one point led the session P1 and P2 (many pictures were taken of this). Once the chequered flag fell to close the day, Luke finished with a fantastic P4 whilst Josh followed close behindin P7. With less than one second separating the top 16 riders, it’s safe to say it’s going to be a close season!
Luke Mossey: “I had a really good test at Silverstone, I feel like I’m getting more and more comfy on the bike every time I sit on it. We found out quite a lot a week about what direction to go with set-up and I’m really happy with the progress we’ve made. I feel like we’re at a really good starting point going into the first round next weekend.”
Josh Elliott: “It was a very productive test – I was able to test new components on the bike and found benefits in some areas. We still have some work to do when we arrive back on Easter weekend, and we’ll focus on improving the package even more. The team have done an incredible job over the winter and we’re looking competitive ahead of Round 1.”

Billy had his morning similarly spoiled by the glorious British weather, but spent his morning in OMG’s new viewing area, giving the team’s fans an exciting way to watch the action from the back of the garage. A few David Attenborough impressions later, he hopped on the bike and went P3, behind two riders who’d rode the track a few weeks previously.
Despite limited running, ‘Skippy’ seemed comfortable on the OMG Suzuki and is confident of going even better when the team returns next weekend, but how was the weather Billy?
Billy McConnell: “It was cold. Really cold. The test was good though, I say good, but we basically got one hour given the morning was a bit of a write off. We played it safe and we know we have some good dry settings already in the bag. We got to try out a new tyre which was a 190 profile rather than a 200 that we’d usually run so hopefully that stops the tyres delaminating as much which was an issue last season. Overall a great test and the team is working well so fingers crossed we can go two more better for next week!
Team Principal Paul helped himself to a handful of an OMG fan-baked cake (thanks Peyton!) as he toasted another great test for the team.
Paul Curran – Team Principal: “Shame we didn’t get many laps here but it’s the same for everyone. The laps we got looked good though and it’s nice to carry the pace across from European testing – you get a lot of people saying that it’s completely different when you come back to the UK but we’re showing that’s not the case. Two bikes in the top ten in the Superbike class and P3 in the Superstock where we got literally 25 laps. We’re starting in a good place going forward and we’re showing a lot of potential.”
Mr ‘G’ was just happy to pull up a chair when OMG Media grabbed him…
Alan Gardner – OMG Racing Owner: “My feet hurt. I know Silverstones garages are big, but I can’t believe I walked almost 7 km, (or so my phone tells me). However, my personal pain has been tempered by the success of the test – but if anyone has any soft sole inserts for shoes, I’m a size 10 please.”
